I was an English major in college (medieval and renaissance lit). That was back in the BPC (before Personal Computers) age. Since then, I have worked on mainframes, mid-range and desktop computers (I must be really old). I also have a background in design. It's a pretty strange combination of skills and talents, but it works for the web.
I've been doing web design since 1998. The web has changed a lot since then, but the basics of web design remain:
Usability - Whether you are selling something or providing information or begging for money, you won't be successful if visitors can't figure out how to use your site.
Accessibility - No matter what browser, what computer, what connection, everyone is welcome. (In many cases, it's the law.)
Search Engine placement - Good sites get good rankings. You don't need to pay for search engine placement gimmicks, but you do need a well designed site.
Arthurian legends - (just kidding -- Arthurian legends have nothing to do with it. There is no Holy Grail of website design.)
If you have any questions about website design or why I'm good at it or whether or not Arthur will return to reign in peace once again, please contact me.
